Wagering requirements, computed before you accept

Multiply the bonus by the wagering multiple and you have the stake required before winnings unlock: a $100 bonus at 35x means $3,500 in bets. That number decides whether a bonus is generous or a trap, and it lives in the terms, never the banner; we teach the arithmetic so you can price any offer, including the ones shown beside our links.

The direct answer

A wagering requirement — playthrough, rollover — is the multiple of a bonus you must stake before its winnings become withdrawable. It is the single number that decides whether a bonus is generous or a trap, and it is always in the terms, never in the banner. This page shows you the arithmetic so you can price any offer yourself, including the partner packs shown beside our links, which the operators can change from week to week.

The arithmetic

Take an illustrative bonus of one hundred dollars at a thirty-five-times requirement. Before anything can be withdrawn you must place bets totalling 3,500 dollars — thirty-five times the bonus. Now bring in the house edge from our house-edge guide: cycling that much money through a game keeps a predictable slice of it. That expected cost, not the headline amount, is what the bonus is worth to you; run the numbers and many offers price out negative before you have clicked anything.

Work out your own bonus

Plug in the terms of the offer in front of you — bonus, multiplier and whether it counts the deposit — to see what clearing it asks of you and what it costs on average at the game's RTP.

Example values: replace them with your offer's terms. Amounts are in your currency.

  • Expected loss is what the game keeps on average from everything wagered (100% minus the RTP). It is a long-run average, not a forecast: a real session strays from it in both directions and can run out before the wagering is done.
  • It leaves out game weighting, the maximum bet allowed, the deadline and caps on winnings. Those sit in each offer's terms and can change the result completely.
  • If “Bonus minus expected loss” comes out negative, the bonus costs more than it gives on average; if it comes out positive, that is still not a guaranteed win.

The clauses that bite

Beyond the multiple itself, read for: game weighting (slots often count fully, table games a fraction or nothing); maximum bet caps while wagering, whose breach can void winnings; time limits on completing the playthrough; and whether the requirement applies to bonus only or to deposit plus bonus — the same multiple on the doubled base is twice the obligation. The UK regulator's technical standards (RTS 3) exist precisely because the likelihood and the rules must be visible to the player — read the rules with that entitlement in mind.

When to walk away

A bonus is worth accepting when the expected cost of the playthrough is smaller than the value you place on the extra play, and you would have made those bets anyway. It is worth refusing when the multiple forces you into games, stakes or a pace you did not choose. Most operators let you decline a bonus at deposit — the option nobody advertises and the one seasoned players use most.

Frequently asked questions

What does 35x wagering mean?
You must stake thirty-five times the bonus amount before withdrawing its winnings. On an illustrative hundred-dollar bonus that is 3,500 dollars in total bets.
Do all games count toward the requirement?
Rarely. Slots usually count at full weight; table and live games at a reduced weight or zero. The weighting table in the terms is the first thing to read.
Why do you not list current bonus offers?
Because they change weekly and by country. A figure copied today can be wrong tomorrow; we teach the pricing method instead so any live offer can be evaluated on the spot.
